FSD Academy offers a unique mix of sport, education and life skills. You can play the sport you love whilst securing well-recognised qualifications (BTEC/NFER or Active IQ) and developing powerful life skills. You can choose from our superb selection of courses which include; football & futsal, health & fitness, mixed martial arts or combined pathways. Our courses lead to:
- Professional or Semi-Professional Football / Sport
- National League Futsal
- Football / Sports Coaching
- Fitness Instruction or Personal Training
- Other Careers in Sport and Leisure
Our education programme is ran in partnership with SCL, one of the UK's leading independent providers of education through sports, whose vision is to positively impact the future prospects of over 1,000,000 young people. Together, SCL tutors, FSD coaches and staff, all provide a very supportive environment to students, where every individual counts. In the event of any course or personal difficulties, we are always happy to help. FSD also have a Welfare Officer and Safeguarding Lead who can be contacted where appropriate.

FSD Academy was founded in 2016 by Matthew Piper and Owen Johnson. Matthew is a former Premier League player with LCFC and Sunderland, whose career was cut short due to injury. Now a UEFA qualified coach, Matthew is in the academy daily and is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experiences to help every student progress in sport, education and as a person. In his spare time outside of FSD, he currently works for BBC Radio Leicester in the LCFC match day commentary team and evening phone in shows. He is also a Community Ambassador for LCFC which involves work with many valuable projects and events.
Owen played for LCFC Youth Academy and is a highly experienced, UEFA qualified coach. As a founder of don’t.just.kick.it, Owen has always been passionate about coaching in a way which allows individuals to improve and realise their potential. As Head Coach at FSD, he continues to promote this philosophy and loves finding new challenges for players to help them progress; whether this means amateur, semi-professional or professional opportunities.
With extensive connections in the semi-professional and professional game, Matthew and Owen will seek trials for any players that consistently demonstrate the required ability, effort and attitude. However, the main aim of FSD Academy is that all students leave with improved performance (in the sport of their choice), enhanced education and most importantly, a better person, with exciting life opportunities!
