This level 2 course is ideal for people wishing to pursue a career in the creative media industry, such as newspapers, magazines, radio and television and are considering progression onto a level 3 creative media qualification. The course is equivalent to three GCSEs at grade 4/C.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
The course involves studying the following areas: video, sound, photography, journalism, web design, and digital image making as well as developing a broad understanding of the media industry. There will be an opportunity for you, in the final term, to negotiate your own project for exhibition and display.
Units are as follows (these are subject to change):
Digital media sectors; audience planning and pitching a media product; digital moving image; digital audio production; digital publishing; production media industry in context; digital photography; digital audio; editing; writing for a media product; graphic design; and lighting for moving image.
How will it be delivered?
All units are assessed through practical assignments and examinations.
You will receive formative assessments and feedback that will inform you of the grade you are working towards. We will set targets that inform you how to improve.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. English and an art/design related GCSEs at grade 3 (D). Maths at grade 3 (D) or above is desirable. You will also require a portfolio which demonstrates your suitability for your chosen course.
Your next steps...
Students may progress onto our level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production, Photography, or Graphic Design. After successful completion of the course it may be possible to progress to another level 3 course and then on to university or straight into the creative media industry in a junior role or apprenticeship.
