Overview

Transition onto a T Level in Building Engineering Services with a specialism in Plumbing and Central Heating with this course. You will focus on developing practical skills and underpinning job knowledge to an industry standard. There are mandatory plumbing subjects you will study that focus on how you undertake and complete work in this job sector. Delivery will be both theory and practice using our classrooms and industrial standard workshops along with some online/blended learning to develop a rounded college learning experience. This course is aimed at 16�18 year-old applicants, who wish to progress on to an associated level 3 T Level. You will be enrolled on a Transition study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Details

There are six units throughout this course including: - Health and safety in building services - Principles of plumbing science - Plumbing and central heating systems installations - Theory and practical skills in central heating - Hot and cold water and drainage systems - Understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering The units are achieved by completing practical work and theory study. Practical installations of both domestic and commercial plumbing and heating will be covered. You will develop qualifications in maths, English, science along with digital skills to support the behaviours required to progress to the associated T Level.

How will it be delivered?

There will be continuous assessments throughout the programme which will be set by your tutors to check your progress in both your vocational, maths and English studies. Practical assessments will also take the form of tutor-designed tasks which will be assessed throughout the year as well as five formal vocational units, some exams and practical assessments to successfully complete the vocational qualification. Maths and English at level 2 or equivalent Functional skills will also need to be achieved to progress on to a T Level.

Entry requirements

Entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths, both of which should be grade 3 or above, plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, one of which must include a science or technical based subject. Students previously studying with us will need to have attained a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing, plus English and maths at grade 3 or the equivalent Functional Skills. All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance and timekeeping, attitude, attainment, and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and the outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.

This course is designed to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to progress on to a level 3 T Level in Building Engineering Services � Plumbing and Central Heating Engineering, for those who wish to pursue a career as a Plumber. T Levels are equivalent to three A Levels and course progression could lead to Higher Education, Higher/Degree Apprenticeships, or you may go directly into employment.
