Overview

Designed for students wanting to progress from our level 1 courses in plastering and construction (or equivalent), this course allows students to further develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or a career as a plasterer in the construction section. Building upon the industry knowledge you've already developed we will help you continue this to help you secure an apprenticeship or work after completion of this course. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Details

During this course, you will cover all the main skills and knowledge you will need to progress to further learning and training or to enter the world of work as a Plasterer. You will study mandatory content including applying plastering materials to interiors, health, safety and welfare in construction and principles of building construction, information and communication. Additionally, you will follow the Solid Plastering route and study laying floor screed systems, installing direct bond and taping and jointing and applying plastering materials to external backgrounds. Our aim is to help you learn beyond the classroom by delivering practical activities and assessments, whilst completing theory lessons in the classroom.

How will it be delivered?

Assessments will be one externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment) and one externally set, externally marked exam sat under examination conditions. There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Technical Certificate.

Entry requirements

Entry to this course requires GCSEs in both English and maths at grade 3 or above, plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, one of which must include a design or technical based subject. You will also need to provide one reference and, it is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme. Students previously studying with us will need to have attained either a Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills or similar, plus English and maths at grade 2 minimum or the equivalent Functional Skills. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who hold a formal English and maths qualification at Level 2 minimum. All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment, and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.

This qualification helps prepare you for work in the construction industry specialising in Plastering. Progression from the Level 2 course would generally be through entering the world of work via an apprenticeship programme or Full-Time employment in the Plastering sector. Further advice and guidance will be given during the academic year.
