This course is a full-time course in motorsport, and you will study for 16 hours a week. It has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for a career in the motorsport industry. The units have been carefully selected to ensure your introduction to the world of motorsport. It will provide you with an understanding of the importance of health and safety and covers of all main systems in-depth with practical experience in maintaining them. Learning is set at an advanced level and you will be expected to carry out practical tasks to industry standards and be able to diagnose complex faults. On completion of the course, you will earn an IMI full diploma at level 2. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled in a study programme, you will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme. All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.


The level 2 Diploma in Motor Sport is a vocational subject-based learning programme covering all elements both the theory and practical aspects of the following: - MS0102 - Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping - MS3 - Knowledge of Motorsport Event Regulations - MS4- Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices - MS57 � Motorsport Vehicle Inspection - MS56.11- Engine Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling System - MS56.12- Fuel, Ignition, air and Exhaust System - MS56.3 - Electrical - MS56.2 - Chassis - MS56.4 - Transmission and Drive-line Personal and social development and functional skills are compulsory elements of the course. The course will have a practical focus with the emphasis on gaining the skills and an understanding of tasks on light vehicles. The aim is to give you confidence in procedures to an advanced level and full understanding of the related theory, so you will be given opportunities to practice skills and techniques learnt in our fully equipped motorsport vehicle workshop.

How will it be delivered?

The course is designed to give you hands-on practical experience on carrying out maintenance and repair procedures and so is delivered and assessed practically in the most part with an element of written assessments to ensure systems theory is understood, coupled with online exams. Your tutor will provide explanations and demonstrations and guide you through practical activities. Practical assessments are based on observations of practical activities, while written assessments are based on completion of written assessments. On completion of the course, you will earn a full IMI level 2 Diploma in Motor Sport. You will complete a portfolio of evidence covering workshop tasks and related online exams and phase tests for each topic you study.

Entry requirements

Internal progressing students will have successfully completed a Level 1 motor vehicle studies plus both GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, plus 2 further GCSEs at grade 4 including a science or technical based subject. Direct entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of study or work. GCSEs in both English and maths at grade 4 or above is required, plus 2 further GCSEs at grade 4 including a science or technical based subject. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who hold both English and maths Functional Skills qualifications at level 2.

This course is for students considering a career in Automotive Motorsport environment as a technician. The qualification offers you progression opportunities to study at level 3 with our Diploma in Light Vehicle Diagnostics. You will need to demonstrate good attendance of at least 90% and gain a good reference from your Programme Lead in order to progress to the next level. Alternatively, you can apply for apprenticeships following successful completion of this course.
