This T Level has been developed in collaboration with building services engineering experts so the content meets the needs of industry and will prepare you for the workplace. You will develop an in-depth understanding of how the construction industry works, the principles of design, and the role of technology and sustainability to launch you into your career. You will spend 80% of your time at college learning a broad range of key theories from across the Building Engineering Services sector plus undertake a series of in-depth practical tasks in our purpose-built workshops as well as developing your skills in electrotechnical engineering on a 45-day industry placement where you will work with an employer to enhance your skills and understanding of the sector. The placement may be undertaken in block release, day release, or a combination of both. The College will support you to find the best placement to suit you. Find out more about T levels


You will learn a broad range of core skills from across the Building Engineering Services sector as well as for your chosen specialism of electrotechnical engineering, this will give you a breadth of knowledge and transferable skills. You will cover health and safety, science, design, construction and the built environment, industry, sustainability, measurement, building technology, information and data, relationship management, digital technology, and commercial/business. In the second year, you will focus on skills specific to electrotechnical engineering working towards four performance outcomes: - Installing electrotechnical systems - Commissioning electrotechnical systems - Maintaining electrotechnical systems - Decommissioning electrotechnical systems - Installing, testing, and commissioning Electrical Installations to BS7671 wiring regulations. You will work on an employer set project during your industry placement which will continue to develop your skills and experience in a real-life setting. English, maths, and digital skills relevant to building services engineering will be integrated throughout the course and you must achieve a level 2 in English and maths as a minimum exit requirement.

How will it be delivered?

You will be assessed via a variety of formal methods during your course plus assessments such as external exams, controlled assessments, an employer-led set project, and summarise your learning through practical assignments. This will generate an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction, or distinction*. You will be awarded a nationally recognised certificate which will show a breakdown of what you have achieved and can be worth up to 168 UCAS points.

Entry requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance at your last place of work or study. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 or above or Functional Skills in both English and maths at level 2, plus two other GCSE's at grade 3 or above, one of which must be a science-related subject. All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment, and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level of study and the outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.

On successful completion of all elements of your programme, you will gain a T Level in Construction: Building Services Engineering and be qualified to progress straight on to a career in electrotechnical engineering or continue to an apprenticeship/higher-level apprenticeship or degree.
