Engineering Certificate level 2
Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies
We are only accepting one application per candidate.
What will you be working towards?
||Engineering Certificate level 2
||Other Regulated/Accredited Qualification
With an emphasis on the application and use of computer technology in the engineering sector, our course aims to support students who wish to start their career pathway into the field of engineering. We will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills across a range of engineering disciplines required to pursue jobs in the engineering industry. As part of this course you will also complete a work experience placement and an employability programme, a great addition to your course and your CV.
Over the duration of the course, students will study eight units covering a range of vocational subjects related to the field of engineering technology. Whilst there are practical elements to many of the subjects studied, this is not primarily a practical course as emphasis is put on the basic knowledge required to progress in a career in engineering. Depending on the chosen pathway these could include the engineered world, investigating an engineered product, interpreting and using engineering information, mathematics for engineering, health and safety, computer-aided engineering, electronic circuit design and construction and science for engineering.
How will it be delivered?
Assessment is via coursework, completed over the duration of the course. You will need to evidence in your work that your skills and understanding are sufficient to pass each unit or achieve higher grades. Additionally, there is an externally set exam on two of the core units studied.
Standard entry to this course requires one satisfactory reference and 90% attendance at your last place of work or study. A GCSE in both English and maths is required, one of which should be a minimum of grade 4 (C) or above, whilst the other should be a minimum of grade 3 (D) or above, plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, one of which must include a design or technical based subject.
Alternatively a Pass grade in the BTEC level 1 Diploma in Engineering together with a minimum of functional skills maths and English at level 2.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled onto a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above.
Your next steps...
On successful completion of this course, you can progress onto our BTEC level 3 extended diploma in Electronics/Electrical Engineering programme or another related level 3 course in Engineering. Alternatively, you may wish to seek an advanced apprenticeship or employment as an engineering technician or trainee engineer job role, our apprenticeships and careers team can advise you on which option may be best for you.
