If you wish to establish a career in the Travel and Tourism industry then this course is for you. You will have the opportunity to explore one of the worlds most dynamic and fast-growing industries. Additionally, you will be completing a qualification in resort representatives.
This course is an academic programme designed to give students a practical insight into the travel and tourism industry potentially leading to level 3 BTEC travel and tourism courses. You will gain a wide range of knowledge within this qualification, enabling you to work successfully in a range of jobs in the travel and tourism industry.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
This is a practical, work-related course and involves the completion of projects, assignments and activities. You will study modules in customer service, selling skills, UK travel and tourism destinations and travel planning. The course also offers a tutorial system to help with your work and planning. You may want to find related part-time job, which will give you an insight into modern business methods and which you could then use for your work experience.
How will it be delivered?
There will be a variety of assessment methods such as report writing, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, role plays and displays.
Entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
Your next steps...
On successful completion of the course with a merit grade, plus a minimum of 90% attendance, you may progress onto a level 3 travel and tourism course. This course will build on your foundation of skills and knowledge enabling you to work in a variety of jobs within the travel and tourism industry. There are two alternative level 3 Travel and Tourism programmes: the BTEC level 3 Diploma or level 3 Professional Travel Operations (Swissport Academy).
