This course is designed to give you the confidence and skills needed to carry out vehicle body repairs and prepare you for a career in the automotive industry.
You will develop a diverse skill set across all aspects of repair as well as workplace knowledge of essential health and safety practices.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include mandatory retaking GCSEs in English and Maths or undertaking Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above in English and Maths. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement of minimum 36 hours in a garage and an employability programme.
This course covers both theoretical and practical elements of vehicle body repair work including:
1. Removing and fitting fixed body panels and components
2. Carrying out repairs to body panels using specialist equipment
3. Resistance spot welding
4. MAGS welding and brazing techniques
5. Repairing plastic components.
Our facilities include a very well-equipped modern vehicle body repair workshop, with advanced tools, equipment and repair techniques to help build your skills in preparation for a career in this industry.
How will it be delivered?
This course is delivered as a combination of practical assessments in the paint workshop, coupled with written assessments and online exams.
Your tutors will provide theory explanations, practical demonstrations and guide you through all assessments both written and practical.
Standard entry to this course requires both GCSEs in English and maths at grade 3/D or above, plus two further GCSEs at grade 2/E or above including a science or technical based subject.
Alternatively, we can accept functional skills in English and maths at level 2, plus one suitable reference.
A suitable level 1 qualification or substantial body repair experience is desirable but not essential, as well as a 90% attendance record.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications but can demonstrate experience in the industry.
