||Other Regulated/Accredited Qualification
From computers to telecommunications technologies, power generation and distribution to automated production systems, engineering is becoming an ever more important aspect of daily life.
This course is aimed at creating future technicians and engineers who wish to gain a broad-ranging qualification in the principles, design and practical aspects of electrical and electronics technologies.
This programme offers a balance between understanding theory and principles and then applying this in a practical environment.
You will study a range of specialist electrical and electronic subjects including; electronic devices, electrical principles, measurement and testing, micro-controllers and mathematics.
On the practical side, you will develop knowledge in how to design, build and test electronic circuits, run simulations, and program microprocessor circuits. During your second year of study, you will undertake a major project which will enhance the skills and knowledge learnt during your first year including;
1. Electronic fault-finding
2. Electrical technology
3. Analogue electronics
4. Further electrical principles
5. Electrical machines
6. Further mathematics
How will it be delivered?
Assessment are completed via coursework, practical projects, written assignments, controlled assessments, and presentations. The work is completed over the course of two years. You will need to evidence in your work that your skills and understanding are sufficient to pass each unit or achieve higher grades. There will be an externally set examination for mathematics and engineering science and an externally set controlled practical assessment.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference and 90% attendance at your last place of work or study.
You will also require a GCSE in English, maths, science and one other subject at grade 5 or above, or equivalent.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which may include retaking GCSEs if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
Your next steps...
Upon successful completion of the course you can continue your studies at university in engineering-related fields or progress to a level 4 Higher National Certificate at Leicester College.
This qualification will also enable you to seek employment in a wide range of technician and trainee engineer roles within the engineering and technology industries. Typical roles may include design, testing, production, servicing, and maintenance.
