Details

Our level 2 qualification in bricklaying aims to cover all the main skills and knowledge you will need to progress to further learning and training or to enter the world of work as a bricklayer. To support your studies, you will cover mandatory modules including building cavity walls, building solid walls and piers, constructing basic arches, principles of construction and setting outbuildings. The units are designed so that you learn the underlying principles and practical skills involved, as well as getting an overview of the principles of construction, building technology and terminology used. We aim to help you develop skills beyond the classroom by providing practical activities and assessments alongside your theory lessons in classrooms.

How will it be delivered?

Assessments will be one externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment) and one externally set, externally marked exam sat under examination conditions. There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Technical Certificate.

Entry requirements

Entry to this course requires GCSEs in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above, plus a further two GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, one of which must include a design or technical based subject. You will also need to provide one reference and it is desirable that you can demonstrate a minimum of 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme. Students previously studying with us will need to have attained either a Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills or similar, plus English and maths at grade 2 minimum or the equivalent Functional Skills. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications. All students will undertake a probationary period for the first six weeks of their programme. During this time, attendance, attitude, attainment, and application towards study will be monitored. A final decision as to the most appropriate level and outcome will be discussed with you towards the end of your probationary period.

Your next steps...

This qualification helps prepare you for work in the construction industry specialising in brickwork and bricklaying. Progression would generally be through entering the world of work via an apprenticeship programme. Completion of the level 2 Brickwork qualification also offers progression to the level 3 Construction and the Built Environment qualification and offers students a technical route.
