This study programme is designed for students who have completed their subsidiary diploma and wish to increase their knowledge and experience of travel and tourism. It will provide you with the opportunity to study a further range of travel and tourism subjects. The course includes a variety of enrichment opportunities including guest speakers, day trips and also residential trips which are all closely linked to the course content.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled in a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
This programme comprises of units such as: retail travel; long haul travel; marketing; specialist tourism; and preparing for employment in the travel industry. You may also have an opportunity to either undertake an extra qualification for either cabin crew or resort representatives if this is the area of work that you wish to pursue.
How will it be delivered?
Assessment will be carried out in a variety of methods such as reports, leaflets, live projects, and presentations. You will need to evidence in your work that your skills and understanding are sufficient to pass each unit or achieve higher grades.
You will need to have completed the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma level 3 in Travel and Tourism to gain entry into this programme. You will also need to evidence at least 90% attendance on your previous programme and supply a reference. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required.
Your next steps...
Successful completion of the programme will allow you to progress on to the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management at Leicester College or onto a degree programme at an alternative provider. Alternatively, you could seek employment or an apprenticeship within the travel industry. Many of our students have successfully progressed into employment working for Swissport, Premier Inn and Jet2 Airlines.
