Students will take part in a range of drawing workshops, using a range of techniques building towards a personalised project where the student chooses their own direction.  Students will reflect and analyse  the work of other practitioners, showing understanding of the wider art world.  Students will develop a portfolio of work that covers research, recording, composition development and a final outcome.  All will have the opportunity to work with other practitioners and will be encouraged to create and take part in out of the classroom experiences, such as trips to draw and record observations visually, exhibition visits and workshops.


A range of approaches to recording images such as imagination, observation, analysing and expression. Develop an understanding of conventions and genres. Develop a range of techniques and an understanding of formal elements, tone, texture, shape, form and composition. Developing knowledge of meaning through visual exploration in a social or personal context. 

How will it be delivered?

Assessment 2 mandatory units at A level internally marked and externally moderated comprising of coursework portfolio (60%) and controlled assignment (40%)

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 5 in an Art/Design subject 

(*not including Catering/Hospitality)

Your next steps...

All creative A-level courses will build a great portfolio of work that will allow students to access Art & Design Foundation level courses.  Students will be equipped to apply for Degree level courses in any Art & Design/Creative sector, eg Fine Art, Fashion, Fottwear, Architecture, Interior Design, Craft, Art History, Textiles, Photography & Video, Fashion Merchandising, Contour Fashion, Fashion Buying, Art Therapy, Product Design and many more.
