This course is delivered using a blend of learning methods including use of online resources to supplement classroom taught lessons. Students will need strong independent learning skills. The course includes work on Complex Numbers, Further Trigonometry and Calculus.
This course is aimed at students who enjoy Mathematics and feel confident with the subject. It would be a good choice for a fourth subject in addition to A level Maths and for students who intend to study Maths on its own or as part of a combined degree (eg. Science or Engineering) at University.
Assessment at AS Level is by exam at the end of the course:
Paper 1 1hr 30min exam, 50% total
Paper 2 1hr 30min exam, 50% total
5 GCSEs at grade A*-C/9-5 including
Grade 8 or above in Maths
Grade C/4 and above in English Language
Further Mathematics is a very useful (and sometimes essential) qualification for careers in business, accounting, actuarial work, computing, science, engineering, technology, operational research, teaching, civil service, surveying, etc.
