What will you be working towards?
National Award (BTEC)
This intensive, dynamic and hands-on course will enable you to gain the skills and techniques necessary to create a rich and diverse portfolio. You will investigate and experiment with a wide range of tools, techniques, processes and materials and have the opportunity to explore, experiment and develop your own style of work. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to be a visual thinker and creative problem solver, whilst developing and honing your imaginative and innovative skills in Art and Design.
If you have a real interest and passion for art and design, preferably having studied a creative subject at GCSE already, although this is not essential!
You are self-motivated and prepared to carry out your own research and investigations, putting in time at home and in study periods to further develop samples and sketchbook work.
You can employ analytical skills, thinking outside the box to create new and exciting designs.
You are willing to take risks, make mistakes and have fun exploring the world of design!
How will it be delivered?
During the course you will study four core Art and Design Units and two specialist units, one which is highly practical based, one which uses CAD to create design elements.
Within these 4 units, two internally assessed and two externally.
For all Level 3 pathways five passes (9-4) or more at GCSE are required, including at least Grade 4 in Maths and/ or English Language. An interest in or experience of Art and Design is essential. It is preferable if you have studied a creative subject at GCSE.

The course provides an excellent progression route into higher education and careers in creative industries such as Surface Pattern or Textiles Design, Fashion Design, 3D Design Crafts, Jewellery, working within education in a variety of roles, including teaching, mentoring and Arts Therapy or workshop delivery.
