The WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition has been designed to provide learners with underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills to progress to further study and training.
This course offers you the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the nutritional requirements of different people and develop skills in order to help them meet their needs. There are plenty of opportunities to show creativity and innovation through the weekly practical work and coursework assignments.
Food competitions are held for students to show off their cooking skills through house events.
We offer a variety of trips to inspire and motivate students.
The WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition is made up of three units from the four below:
Unit 1: Meeting the Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups
Unit 2: Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat
Unit 3: Experimenting to Solve Food Production
Unit 4: Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition
6 grade 5s (or equivalent), including at least a grade 5 in English Language or Literature.
Students must have a minimum of a good pass grade in the relevant subject (if taken) at level 2.
An understanding of food science and nutrition is relevant to many industries and job roles. Care providers and nutritionists in hospitals use this knowledge, as do sports coaches and fitness instructors. Hotels and restaurants, food manufacturers and government agencies also use this understanding to develop menus, food products and policies that that support healthy eating initiatives. Many employment opportunities within the field of food science and nutrition are available to graduates.
