Two year full time course with accredited UCAS points. This modular course is designed for those wishing to gain a recognised professional qualification and 'licence to practise' to work with children in a variety of early years settings. Learners are required to attend college (3 days)and placement (2 days).


Unit 1 - An introduction to working with children.
Unit 2 - Development from conception to age 16 years.
Unit 3 - Supporting children.
Unit 4 - Keeping children safe.
Unit 5 - The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children.
Unit 6 - Promote a healthy environment for children.
Unit 7 - Play and learning in children's education.
Unit 8 - Caring for children.
Unit 9 - Development of professional skills within children's education.
Unit 12 - Nutrition and healthy food for children.
Unit 14 - Working with children with special needs.
Unit 18 - Working with babies from birth to 12 months.

Appropriate functional skills will also be required.

How will it be delivered?

The course is continually assessed by nationally set assignments in all units.
Seen short answer test paper.
Externally marked research task

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's Grade C or above (inc. English Language) or a Level 2 Early years qualification at Merit or Distinction with functional / key skills level 2 english / communication.Caring, patient nature and a keen interest in young children is a must.

Your next steps...

Employment as a qualified Level 3 Early Years practitioner within a variety of early years settings(private, statutory, voluntary or indepndent).
Progression to HNC / HND Childhhod Studies, Foundation Degree in Children and Young Peoples Services, or entry into Higher Education
