- Listening (the detailed study of different areas and styles, and includes specific set works by composers such as a Classical symphony and some Jazz pieces).
How will it be delivered?
At A Level
Performance Recital - three pieces, lasting approximately 10 minutes that are Grade VII or Grade VIII standard.
Composing - you will compose one piece on a brief set by the exam board. Compositions will need to be fully notated and the scores are submitted to the exam board. You will complete a chorale in the style of J.S. Bach
Listening and Appraising - analysing music through a detailed study of set works, learning about unfamiliar music and answering questions related to recorded extracts.
Summary: Formal assessment will consist of a recorded recital the submission of a composition with a score a written exam for Listening and Appraising music.
Exam Board: Edexcel
Entry requirements
5 Grade 4’s and above to include a 4 in GCSE Music if taken.
Performance standard of at least grade 5 (Trinity College / ABRSM) or equivalent.
Theory level of working towards grade 5 (ABRSM) or equivalent.
