This level 2 accountancy course is an ideal starter course if you wish to work in accounting, auditing and related areas of law and data processing. The course provides a practical approach to accounting work. It gives you a thorough grounding in the basics of accounting and/or bookkeeping, and prepares you to excel in an entry-level or support role within the industry. It also prepares you to move on to advanced and then professional-level courses. As part of your materials fee you will be registered as a member of AAT in order for you to access resources and take the exams.
If you are aged 16-18 you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths, if you haven�t already achieved a grade 4 or above at GCSE. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
During your year of study you will undertake the following units (which will be classroom based and will give you all the initial knowledge and understanding of accountancy to enable you to either move onto the next level or to find employment in an accounts/administration position): receipt and payment transactions; communications; law; business administration; computerised accounts; and data.
How will it be delivered?
There will be an exam for each individual unit as well as an overall exam at the end of the year.
It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance and an excellent academic reference. You will need to have four GCSEs which include GCSE English at grade 4 (C) and maths at grade 3 (D) or above .

Upon successful completion of the course, you can progress onto the AAT level 3 accountancy course at Leicester College. Other progression opportunities include progression on to a different level 3 course within the College; employment; or an apprenticeship. The skills you learn on this course will be of value to you for a range of different career opportunities.
